Downham and District Swimming Club was formed in 1993 by Michael Jay and Elma Taylor to fill a need in the local community for a competitive swimming club.
Originally based at the pool at the Memorial Recreation Ground, the old swimming pool was formerly an outdoor pool built in the 1960's.
The new 25m, 5 lane facility opened in 2002 at the Downham Leisure Centre, providing far superior facilites.
Since then the club has been able to increase its membership to about 100 members, including masters.
It offers members of all ages a chance to train and compete regularly, both in League galas, Open Meets and friendly galas with other clubs in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs and Lincs
